The Science

Functional Keratin™ is a family of breakthrough materials that are closer in form to native keratins than any biomaterial currently available.

Other keratins currently available have been denatured using harsh processes to make them soluble. These harsh processes effectively destroy the functionality of the proteins.

Keratec’s proprietary protein extraction technology, supported by a portfolio of patents, utilises innovative technologies to gently solubilise the original proteins. These technologies extract keratin fractions in a soluble and digestible form, leaving the natural amino acid structure intact and fully functional.

Keratec’s Functional Keratin™ materials, in addition to their structural role, provide activity to any formulation.

Keratin – Nature’s Building Block

Keratin is a family of more than 200 normally non-soluble proteins that play a fundamental structural role in nature. They are present in human tissues such as skin as well as hair and nails. With high sulphur content and containing a good balance of amino acids including cysteine, phenylalanine, leucine, glutamine and lysine; keratins perform a fundamental structural role in nature.
